Annette is trying to survive under the smothering of her mother. She has an illness that causes her to faint if she doesn't eat regularly. Her mother is ashamed and tries to hide this. She also feels like Annette needs to be married and the highest bidder will get the "prize."
Peter is the second son who has chose the path of a clergy. Definitely not in the running for Annette as far as her mother is concerned. The two must trust that God has control and will work everything out according to His will.

Don't let the title or description fool you - this book isn't just a romance. The author has included twists and turns throughout the entire book. The reader will be kept on their toes the entire time. This book is definitely Christian fiction. The elements of faith are interspersed liberally through the plot and are a key factor in some of the story lines. I really appreciated the way the author handled the subject of slavery and showed the atrocities from a different viewpoint than I'm normally accustomed to. Sometimes the plot felt a little disjointed. The characters were a little flat at times as well. But overall, this was an entertaining book and I look forward to seeing the author grow in her writing. People who enjoy regency romance, suspense, or Christian fiction will find this a fast paced, enjoyable story.

I received this book free of charge from Litfuse Publicity in exchange for my honest review.
