More Free Books!!!!!!

Authors and publishers will often send me a book called an ARC to review. This simply means that the book hasn't been published yet. They might change the cover slightly and every once in a while some errors are found and corrected. But basically it is the same book. These are the books I'm going to be giving away today, because if I like the book I'll support the author by purchasing the book once it's been published. So now I'm passing on these books in hopes that you'll find a new author to read too.
The rules:
1. Go through the list of books and pick ALL of the ones you like.
2. In the comments section list the books you like in the order you would like to receive them.
3. If I do not know you personally or your sign-in name doesn't match your real one, please leave an email address so I can contact you when you win.
4. The deadline is June 2nd. Sharing this will get your name moved to the top of the list if you want the same book as someone else. So please share and then comment again where you shared!
Once the deadline has passed, I'll go through and give the books to the people who have requested them. If multiple people request the same book I'll use random.org to select the winner. Chances are pretty good you'll get at least one book.

School Struggles Give Away

Give Away for School Struggles
School Struggles: A Guide to Your Shut-Down Learner's Success

About the author:
Dr.  Richard Selznick is a psychologist, nationally certified school psychologist, graduate school professor, university professor of pediatrics and school consultant. The author of two books, The Shut-Down Learner: Helping Your Academically Discouraged Child   and the recently published School Struggles: A Guide To Your Shut-Down Learner’s Success, he has presented to parents and educators internationally, as far as Dubai and Abu Dhabi and throughout the United States .  A down-to-earth presenter who looks to discuss difficult topics in non-jargon terms, Dr. Selznick tries to present complex issues in down-to earth terms.

Among the many topics that he presents, some of the more popular include:  “Relationship:  The Key Variable in School Struggling,”  “Myths & Realities of Dyslexia,”  “Understanding the Shut-Down Learner Formula,” “Stages of Reading Development:  Signposts That Guide Instruction,”  “Why’s Everyone Always Pickin’ On Me:  Myths & Realties of Bullying,” “We Keep Telling Him You Have to Get Organized:  Executive Function Deficits,” “Secrets of Parenting Success,” and  “Regaining Control of the Ship.”

Dr. Selznick is the Director of the Cooper Learning Center, a Division of the Department of Pediatrics, of Cooper University Hospital.

About the book: (my review)
Learning issues in school are a frequent concern for parents, teachers, and students. The author of The Shut-Down Learner, takes the reader through the different issues that might be hindering your child scholastically. The section begins with an illustration on the issue at hand (ie: ADHD). There is take-away point that summarizes and then a "try this" section that gives practical advice on how to work with the particular issue.

I can definitely see this book being a huge help to a parent or teacher who has a child with one of these issues. Since the author tackles a wide range of issues that include social, organizational and reading this is a book that most parents will benefit from reading. The writing style makes this book easy to read and process, something that is greatly appreciated in an informative book of this nature.

Shades of Sin

Shades of Sin
Lillia Forsythe

This is one of the books in the blogger contest. Check out my Bloggerthon - Free Books page for instructions on how to win this and many other books.

Chevelle is raised as a slave. Her life is horrifying. But when she's rescued she must learn to live in a world completely unfamiliar to what she's been used to. She can see slightly into the future and is learning to use her insights to help and protect her friends and the random stranger. She joins a band called Shades of Sin and learns which of her friends are real.

This book is an paranormal/fantasy book that is unlike any I've ever read. It reads quickly, has interesting ideas and only briefly describes the typical fantasy characters. The book has non-monogamous relationships, vampires and sexual slavery. It's definitely not your typical book, but well written and worth your read if you enjoy this type of fantasy.

I received this book free of charge in exchange for my review.

Island of Secrets

Island of Secrets
Tammie Clarke Gibbs

This is one of the books in the blogger contest. Check out my Bloggerthon - Free Books page for instructions on how to win this and many other books.

Lila reluctantly agrees to masquerade as her reporter friend who is laid up with a messed up ankle. It could be the scoop of a lifetime for her friend, so Lila agrees to pose as Cassie for a day.
She rides a boat to an island to meet Shane, the owner. His ex-girlfriend told the world that his resort has ghosts. So Shane agrees to let one reporter come to the island to prove her wrong.
What happens next will change both of their lives forever. Or were they already changed and just didn't know it?

I'll admit it right now, I don't care for time-travel books. I've read quite a few and just couldn't get into them. But occasionally I'll find one that really interests me. This book just happened to be one of them. I couldn't put it down. The plot and layout was good, the characters were engaging and the author has a way of pulling you into the story and sweeping you along with the characters.
One thing that I don't like about most time-travel books is the inconsistencies with what happens to the characters when they go missing from the present. Ms. Gibbs addressed this and it made the story more appealing to me. I won't spoil it, but I loved the ending. It was sweet, but not what I was expecting.

On another note: This book could potentially be labeled as Christian fiction. I noticed some things throughout the book that, to me, pinpointed that the author was Christian. For those of you who don't care for this type of book - it is very subtle, you might not even notice. But I noticed her reference to God a couple of times and liked that element in the book.

I received this book free of charge from the author in exchange for my honest review.

Blog Contest

I know it seems like forever ago that it started, but the bloggerthon contest is still going on.
I need 67 more followers (128 total) to be able to give away these books.
It's perfectly okay for me if you follow until the contest ends and then quit. I'm just ready for this thing to be over. So let everyone know that right now we have approx 34 books to give away and I only have 20 people who have commented. So right now those twenty people are guaranteed a book. Pretty good odds if you ask me.

Excuse Me, My Brains Have Stepped Out

Excuse Me, My Brains Have Stepped Out
Pandora Poikilos

This is one of the books in the blogger contest. Check out my Bloggerthon - Free Books page for instructions on how to win this and many other books.

Anya finds out that she has a rare brain disorder and her world is suddenly changed. She begins writing letters to her dad about her thoughts. These thoughts are all across the board as far as subject, but also deal with her feelings about her disorder.

This book is written in a similar style to Daddy Long Legs and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society in that the story is told through letters. The rest of her style is completely different, but I noticed the similarities. Some readers might get frustrated with this style, but I've always enjoyed it.
Check out this book if you want to think, ponder and question.

I receieved this book free of charge in exchange for my honest review.

Perilous Light

Perilous Light
The Afterglow Trilogy
Alyssa Rose Ivy

This is book two in the Afterglow Trilogy. I reviewed the first book, Beckoning Light, a while back and really enjoyed it. So I was thrilled to get a chance to review this one.

Charlotte has learned about her place in "another world" and is coming to grips with the fact that she is the Essence and belongs to someone else. But before she can get control of her special abilities she finds herself at war to save her new home.

This book was just as good as the first one. It deals more with her new life in Energo and how she is learning to use her powers to help those around her.
It is just as fascinating as the first book. The author has a beautiful way of writing a story that pulls you along almost before you realize what is happening.
My only complaint is that now I have to wait for the third book to come out.

I received this book free of charge in exchange for my honest review.

Be sure to check out my blog contest page for info on how to enter the contest so you can win a copy of Beckoning Light.

Through Winter Skies

Through Winter Skies
Evans Family Series
Collette Scott

Book One in this series is being given away in my contest. Check out the contest page to see how you might win a copy.

Emery and Zach were best friends. But one night ten years ago something terrible happened and they both drifted apart. Now Emery needs Zach's help and he has to find a way to breach the walls.

Although this book is part of a series, it can be read alone without missing anything. I loved this book as much, if not more, than the first book. The story is well written and the characters are so fun to get to know. Ms. Scott has a way of capturing the reader and drawing them into the story. I felt the desperation, pain, love and urgency through out the story. I can definitely say that Collette Scott has become a new favorite author of mine. Check out the series if you enjoy romance, mystery and suspense.

I received this book free of charge in exchange for my honest review.

Dreams Unleashed

The Prophecies, Book 1
Dreams Unleashed
Linda Hawley

This is one of the books in the blogger contest. Check out my Bloggerthon - Free Books page for instructions on how to win this and many other books.
Life has changed in the United States. Freedoms are being lost under the guise of protection and health. Ann has dreams that are becoming reality and she isn't sure what to do. She belongs to a grassroots organization that is trying to stop the control the government is taking. She must learn to use her organization and her dreams to control the world around her as it seemingly spirals out of control.

This book was really great. I enjoyed the characters and story plot. Even though I'm not a tech savvy person, I understood what was going on because the author explained everything so easily and clearly. The book is a part of a trilogy. So if you don't enjoy that rush at the end that leaves you hanging then make sure you have all three books before you begin reading. Because you won't want to put this down. A fun read that will keep you guessing.

I received this book free of charge in exchange for my honest review.

Ties That Bind

Ties That Bind
 A Madison Knight Novel
Caroline Arnold

This is one of the books in the blogger contest. Check out my Christmas contest page for instructions on how to win this and many other books.

This book is about a detective, Madison, and a serial murder case that falls into her lap. She's a hard worker, honest, and determined to find the truth even if it isn't convenient.

I really enjoyed this book. Mystery is one of my favorite genres. The characters in the book were real to life and fun. The author had a way of portraying someone so that I either loved them or hated them (Madison's boss). The story flowed smoothly and kept me interested the entire time. It had a surprise twist at the end that I certainly didn't see coming. This is definitely an author to check out if you enjoy suspense or mysteries.

The second book in the series just came out last month and I can't wait to check it out.

I received this book free of charge in exchange for my honest review.

If We Dare to Dream

If We Dare to Dream
Collette Scott

This is one of the books in the blogger contest. Check out my Christmas contest page for instructions on how to win this and many other books.

This is book I in the Evans saga. It follows Jamie, the youngest and only girl in a family of five. A chance encounter with someone will change everyone's life forever. It's hard to imagine that just a small act of kindness or a short conversation can be someone's saving grace.
Jamie very briefly meets a man at a bar on her last night in town. She's headed out the next morning to begin her new life. He will be charged with murder the next day.

Collette Scott delivered another great book. This is her third book and I enjoyed it as much as the first two. I don't want to spoil it for anyone so I'll try to be vague. The main characters were fun and easy to like and relate to. The story flowed very smoothly and while I knew almost from the beginning who the murder was, it didn't detract from the book at all. In fact, I'm not even sure it was supposed to be a secret. The main part of the book for me was not trying to figure out who the killer was, but watching how the characters dealt with the issues they were handed.
It was a great book and I can't wait to read the next book in the saga, due February 2012.

I received this book free of charge in exchange for my honest review.
