Murder is No Accident

Murder is No Accident
Hidden Springs Mysteries #3

Maggie wasn't supposed to be in the old vacant house. But she desperately needed somewhere quiet to write. Since no one was living here, it seemed like the perfect place. At least until she heard what sounded like a murder and rushed downstairs to find a woman - dead.
Sheriff Keane is called to the scene and rules the death an accident. But he begins to doubt himself when a second person is murdered in the house and Maggie appears to be in danger.  Lots of gossip, drama, and murder are making this small town very, very busy.

I've really enjoyed reading the books in this series. The author really brings an authentic small town feel to the story. The characters are realistic, have depth, and are engaging. The mystery isn't revealed too soon and the suspense is perfect. I love how the author sprinkles little elements of faith throughout without being preachy or overbearing. I also like the little romance that is going on between the main character and another character who has slipped into each story just a little bit. It is just the right element for a mystery and pulls me into the next book. Overall, this was a great story and I definitely hope the author plans to write another one in this series.

I received a copy of this book from The Suspense Zone. All thoughts expressed are my own.

The Cantaloupe Thief

The Cantaloupe Thief
A Branigan Powers Mystery
Deb Richardson-Moore

Branigan is a reporter for a small town paper. Her boss has decided to write a follow up story on the anniversary of a ten year old murder. The murder is now considered a cold case and is the only unsolved murder in the small Georgia town. Branigan hopes that she can shed some light on what might have happened that day ten years ago when a prominent lady was brutally murdered in her home. But now the unsolved murders are starting to add up and Branigan is getting spooked.

This was an excellent book. The plot was a mixture of small town quaintness, whodunit, and a bit of suspense. The author wove the details together to create a gripping story that I couldn't put down. The writing style reminded me a lot of Alexander McCall Smith. The story draws you in, the details keep you puzzled, and the characters make you think. I loved how the story was told partially from the homeless people's point of view, which had a different perspective. The book, while definitely entertaining, also made me think. And that is a plus for me. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book and can't wait to read the next one.

I received this book free of charge from The Suspense Zone in exchange for my honest review.

Murder Comes by Mail

Murder Comes by Mail
Hidden Springs Mystery Book 2

Deputy Michael is driving the bus for a bunch of elderly ladies when he spots a man about to jump off a bridge. When he saves the man, the man whisper to Michael that he'll be sorry that he saved him. Bodies begin to pile up and all evidence points to either the jumper or Michael. Michael is then in a rush to clear his name.

This book is the second in the series, but I believe would work as a stand-alone. Although I would highly recommend getting to know the characters in book one first. The author does an outstanding job of pulling the small town feel into the story and bringing it alive. The characters are authentic and entertaining. There are several secondary characters that I would love to get to know in real life. The clues are not easily solved, which was a plus for me. The story has a element of faith, lots of fun loving characters, and a nice cozy murder mystery which combined made for a very pleasurable experience. I would recommend this book if you love Christian fiction, murder mysteries, or small town novels.
