Discipline with Love and Limits

Discipline with Love and Limits
Jerry Wyckoff and Barbara C. Unell
25786034
The book is divided into five sections. The first four sections are like chapters and are filled with advice, why certain methods work, and a discipline dictionary. The last section is the largest and is a reference section with 43 different situations or problems that might arise with a child. Each problem is broken up into a five step solution-
1. Defining the problem
2. Preventing the problem
3. Solving the problem
4. What Not to Do
5. Case History

This is not a book to sit down and read. It is more of a reference guide for problems that a parent might be having. The most common problems are addressed and the authors use concise wording and easy steps so everything is clear and well defined. This is an informative book that I think parents of toddlers will really appreciate and benefit from.

Lady John

Lady John
Madeline Robins

Lady Olivia John is a widow living in a small home with her mother. Months after the death of her husband she receives a letter from her late husband's family. They would like her to come visit them in the family home in London. Olivia is a bit apprehensive about meeting her husband's family, but accepts the invitation. What follows is enlightening time for Olivia and her mother.

Lady John was written in 1982 and has now become available in an ebook format. The book began a bit slow for me because it is written in regency style of writing and speaking. But once I became accustomed to the dialogue the book picked up and I enjoyed the story. There are several hilarious characters that I either loved or loved to hate. It's a sweet, romantic read that will definitely appeal to regency lovers.

Whither Thou Goest I Will Go

Whither Thou Goest, I Will Go
Naomi Dathan

Jemima and Seth, with their son Charlie, leave the comforts of home to settle on a Nebraska farm. Jem left a spoiled young lady. But prairie life has a way maturing people very quickly. Jem has to choose whether she's going to stick by her husband and go where he goes, or choose to go home to her dad.

This book was very well written, although heartbreaking at times. It's so easy to sit in my comfortable chair and read about the harshness of life in the 1800s. But to imagine losing a loved one because of a storm or having to chose whether to stay at the farm or move back to town that has nothing for you. Many people chose to stay, but quite a few just couldn't handle the stresses and constant worry.

The slight negatives - Jem's complaining and Seth's unbending and refusing to discuss things really got on my nerves. Although I'm sure it's a true rendition of many marriages it was grating.

It's a good book and I'll certainly be checking out the author's other books.
