Strong Marriage

Growing a Strong Marriage
Starting Strong Vol. 1
Marriage is an important part in a Christian's relationships. God not only designed, but He blessed marriage. With all of the issues that are making marriage difficult in the world today, young couples needs to start with a strong foundation in marriage. The creators of this study guide have brought six couples together to discuss how they met, the building blocks they started with, and some of their advice and thoughts on marriage.

The videos were interesting. It was nice to have the different perspectives of all six couples talking about the same subject. The foundation of faith was presented throughout the video and the book had a focus on scripture and Biblical principles for marriage. The videos were long enough to share important information, but not so long that the viewer got bored. The accompanying study guide was well put together. The questions fit with the video and help the couples dig deeper into their marriage. There is a leader's guide in the back of the book with tips on how to be a more effective leader and possible ways to structure the group. As a small group leader, I enjoyed the videos and liked the layout. I would have preferred more questions, but the ones provided did initiate conversation in our group that kept the meeting going. Overall, I would recommend this for young couples who are considering marriage or for those of us who are already married, but would like a refresher course.

I received a free copy of this book/video to review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC Regulations. I am part of The CWA Review Crew.

When Chicks Hatch

When Chicks Hatch
Heather Randall
Five women all intersect as they deal with major issues that change their lives and bring them closer to their friends, family, and God. Each woman also learns who her true friends are. Since each woman is at a different place in her life, everyone should be able to find a character to relate to.

The book had a very chick-lit, contemporary feel. The author wrote a story that will capture the reader's attention and tells a tale of redemption and forgiveness without coming across as too preachy. Because there were so many characters the plot had a soap-opera vibe with many different intersecting stories being told at once. I'll admit to some confusion at the start, but quickly figured everything out and settled in to enjoy an adventure that included faith, romance, and some plot twists.
This was a sweet book by a new author. I look forward to seeing what she comes out with next.

I received this book free of charge from CWA in exchange for my honest review.

Daily Planner

2015 Daily Planner
Designed by Sue Hooley
The designer is a homeschooling mom. After several years of searching for planner that was flexible to her ever changing schedule, she decided to design her own. Designed with busy moms in mind, this planner is filled with plenty of space to write, sections that are adaptable, and beautiful design elements. There is the yearly, monthly, and weekly calendars. Each section begins with a spiritual quote and has tons of space for notes. The weekly section has a scripture, tasks list, and menu section. There are sections for tasks, projects, additional information, and a shopping list section. The shopping lists are perforated

I've been using the 2014 planner and can't live without it. I've already transferred some dates and information to my new 2015 planner. The layout and colors are very pretty. The scripture on the weekly section is perfect for memorization. I'm very forgetful and this planner has been a lifesaver for writing down every little detail of my day. I think the pockets are my favorite. The space for extra lists, receipts, etc. is so handy. The designer has created a planner that has everything you need with enough space for creativity and adapting. It's perfect for the person whose life is on the go, a homeschooling mom, or the person with too many things to juggle.

9 Traits of a Life-Giving Mom

9 Traits of a Life-Giving Mom:
Replacing My Worst with Gods Best
Sue Detweiler

Every single mom out there has had moments of frustration, loneliness, and feelings of being overwhelmed. We have the choice to give in to our frustrations or turn them over to God.  The author has taken the fruits of the spirit and in a clean and concise manner has presented a book that should be a requirement for every mom. There are eleven chapters with study guides to accompany them. The chapters aren't long so it will work for a busy mom, but can also be studied more in depth, making this perfect for small groups or Bible studies.

I picked up 9 Traits for a Life-Giving Mom by Sue Detweiler because I'm a mom and I'm always up for anything that will help me be a better one. I have read quite a few parenting books since I first found out I was going to be a mom. But none of them has reached me so well and spoke to me so elegantly as this book has. The author wrote in terms that every mom will be able to relate to. She shares real life experiences and backs up her thoughts with plenty of scripture. The entire way through the book I was being pointed in the direction of God and my need for Him. I felt encouraged and affirmed as a great mom. But I also felt convicted and inspired to put more of my faith in my Savior and become an even better mom through Him.

The author encourages trust, faith, and total dependence on God. I simply read through the book so that I could write this review. But I will be going back to savor each chapter and go through all of the scriptures and discussion questions. I can't recommend this book enough.

You may purchase this book on Amazon or at other retail stores.
